KUCHING: In their first-ever collaboration, TVS and Astro will be hosting two major concerts – Konsert MeleTOP TVS on May 17 and Konsert Berkat Gawai-Kaamatan on May 21 – at the Miri Indoor Stadium.
Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, said the free-admission events would not only excite music lovers but also serve as a valuable boost to the local creative industry and a great platform for homegrown talent to shine.
He commended the collaboration between TVS and Astro, hailing it as a commendable synergy that goes beyond competition to elevate the national entertainment scene.
“This is exactly what the industry needs – two reputable media establishments working hand-in-hand to create something special for audiences across Malaysia,” he said during the press conference on the events at the Baitulmakmur building here today.

He noted the significance of giving Sabah and Sarawak talents the opportunity to perform on a grand stage.
“It is a testament that no dream is too big. For our aspiring performers, this will serve as both inspiration and motivation,” he said.
He also stressed the economic spillover the concerts will bring to the city, especially with the events being free to the public.
“When big music events come to town, we expect more visitors from all over Malaysia and neighbouring countries like Brunei and Kalimantan.
“They come for the shows but also spend on flights, hotels, food, shopping, and crafts. It’s a win-win for everyone,” Abdul Karim added.
TVS Acting Chief Executive Officer, Mohamad Sardon Zainal, said Miri was chosen as the venue to spread the festive spirit across Sarawak.
“As the gateway to northern Sarawak, Brunei and Kalimantan, Miri is the ideal location for these celebrations.
“With the city’s 20th anniversary around the corner, there’s no better time to host these concerts.
“We’re excited to offer free entertainment and share this experience with everyone,” he said.
Konsert MeleTOP TVS, powered by UMobile in collaboration with Suara Sarawak and Sarawak Tribune, marks MeleTOP’s exciting debut in East Malaysia.
The concert features a star-studded line-up, including Dayang Nurfaizah, Hael Husaini, Stacy, Dolla, Floor 88, Namie, and more, blending the richness of traditional Bornean culture with the energy of contemporary pop.
Catch the live broadcast on TVS (Channel 122 on Astro, MYTV & Unifi TV), Astro ONE and Sooka.
Also taking the spotlight is Konsert Berkat Gawai-Kaamatan, headlined by Malaysia’s queen of rock, Ella.
She will be joined by Bob Yusof, Ramles Walter, Dabra Sia, Velvet Aduk, Roxy Ixzy, SMDX, and Kalimantan’s Marina Jara.
The concert kicks off at 7.30 pm, with a delayed broadcast on TVS at 9.00 pm on May 31.
