BANGKOK: TV Sarawak (TVS) is aiming to develop a well-organised and modern broadcasting centre in Kuching, one that could attract international broadcasters during the 2027 SEA Games.
Sarawak Media Group (SMG) chairman Datuk Norhayati Mohd Ismail said the proposed International Broadcast Centre (IBC) already has a confirmed location.
“We already have our location; we know exactly where our place and the building is there.
“We have been given two years to prepare. From the general briefing we heard earlier, it’s not easy to start from scratch with a new building. But since we already have a building, we don’t have to rush.
“Still, two years is not very long, and anything can happen, right?” she said after visiting the IBC here today (Dec 9).
She explained that the visit to the IBC not only allowed Sarawak to learn technical aspects but also to build networks with international broadcasters.
“It is good that we came here because it’s a learning experience for us to understand what has been done before.
“We can learn from them, and it is also a networking opportunity for us to find out about the best facilities and the most updated equipment.” she added.
Meanwhile, Thailand’s IBC manager Colonel Chuchat Pimprasert said that building an ideal IBC requires careful space planning.
“The main area of the IBC here requires 500 to 600 square meters, an additional 400 square meters for studios, 300 square meters for broadcast function offices, and over 100 square meters for common areas.
“In total, the IBC needs approximately 1,500 square meters, including parking and other supporting facilities,” he explained.
Also present were SMG board members Datuk Dr Jeniri Amir; Datuk Ahmad Shafiee Yaman; Datin Dayang Ernie Awang Hashim; and SMG chief media officer Sardon Zainal.
