KUCHING: TVS, a television station owned by Sarawak Media Group (SMG), is looking to establish cooperation with television stations in West Kalimantan, Indonesia, on news exchanges, journalism expertise sharing and joint programme production.
SMG Chief Media Officer, Mohamad Sardon Zainal, said the group welcomed the proposed collaboration, which was discussed during a courtesy visit by an Indonesian Television Journalists Association (IJTI) delegation on Tuesday (Nov 3).
“TVS welcomes their proposal for news exchanges, and we may also collaborate on other programmes, including entertainment, where Malaysian and Indonesian artistes could share the same stage,” he said after leading a discussion with the delegation.
Mohamad Sardon said the proposed collaboration could strengthen media relations between Malaysia and Indonesia while creating opportunities for artiste exchanges and joint programme production.
“We want TVS to become a bridge between the two countries and take the lead in connecting Malaysia and Indonesia through media cooperation,” he said.
However, he said the collaboration would require the preparation of a working paper and the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) before implementation.
Meanwhile, IJTI delegation leader Yuni Ardi said the visit aimed to strengthen ties and provide opportunities for sharing experiences and knowledge in television journalism between Sarawak and West Kalimantan.
He said the delegation also saw potential in organising joint activities with journalists in Kuching, particularly TVS media practitioners, which could benefit both parties.
According to him, information sharing among media practitioners from both regions was important in highlighting developments and potential across Borneo.
“We came to TVS to strengthen our ties and exchange ideas between West Kalimantan and Sarawak, as well as share knowledge on news delivery, information gathering and addressing various challenges in journalism,” he said.
