BINTULU: Twenty-five residents of a longhouse in Bintulu were evacuated early today after rising floodwaters left them stranded overnight.

Fire and Rescue personnel from Bintulu station were dispatched to Rumah Roselind Suang at 12.52 am following reports that the settlement had been cut off by fast-rising water.

The response team arrived at 1.04 am after travelling approximately 11 km to the site.

According to the Sarawak Fire and Reedcur Operation Centre operations, firefighters found all 25 individuals sheltering inside the longhouse.

The team deployed an aluminium boat to ferry the group to safety before transferring them by Hicom lorry to the temporary relief centre at Dewan Suarah.

The evacuation involved 13 personnel and a fleet comprising an FRT unit, an EMRS vehicle, a Hicom lorry, a Hilux, and the aluminium boat.

The operation was brought under control at 2.38 am and stood down at 2.45 am.

The evacuees included two adult men, 10 adult women, one elderly woman, seven boys, and five girls.
