Two arrested after CCTV captures alleged ladder theft in Miri

MIRI: Police have arrested two local men after CCTV footage captured the alleged theft of an aluminium ladder outside a house here, with both suspects detained at separate locations following police intelligence and investigations.

The suspects, aged 45 and 42, were arrested in Pujut 9 and Desa Pujut Permy by a Crime Prevention Branch (CPJ) team from Miri Central Police Station.

The incident was reported to have occurred at about 3pm on Sept 11, when two unidentified men were allegedly seen taking an aluminium ladder placed outside a house before fleeing on a motorcycle.

Police said investigations, including a review of CCTV footage and follow-up intelligence, led to the identification and subsequent arrests of the two suspects.

The operation was led by Miri Central Police Station chief ASP Goldy Jangan.

Police also seized clothing believed to have been worn during the incident and a motorcycle suspected to be connected to the case.

The seized items have been taken as exhibits to assist further investigations.

The case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft.

Police urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide information on suspected criminal activities to assist police in preventing and combating crime.
