MIRI: Police arrested two local men for attempting to steal underground cables belonging to Telekom Malaysia (TM) near Wisma Persekutuan, Jalan Cerdas, on Tuesday night.
Miri district police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said a patrol team spotted the suspects acting suspiciously at around 11.20 pm and conducted a check.
“Further inspection found both men preparing to cut TM’s underground cables using a chain block and pliers,” he said in a statement today.
The suspects, aged 41 and 28, were immediately detained. Police believe they targeted quiet and poorly lit areas late at night to carry out their thefts.
Both men are being held in custody and will be remanded for investigation under Section 379/511 of the Penal Code for attempted theft.
ACP Mohd Farhan said police remain committed to tackling theft cases, especially cable theft, and urged the public to report any suspicious activities to help combat such crimes.
