BAU: Two men were arrested in separate drug raids around Kampung Segong and Kampung Stenggang here on Monday night (Feb 2), with police seizing 0.70 gramme of suspected methamphetamine worth about RM80.
The arrests were carried out between about 6.30 pm and 9.30 pm by the Bau Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division (NCID), together with officers from the Bau district police headquarters (IPD).
Bau police chief Mohd Haide A Rahman said the suspects, aged 29 and 18, were found in possession of a small transparent plastic packet containing crystalline substances believed to be methamphetamine.
“Both were arrested under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for possession of drugs.
“Initial urine screening tests later showed both suspects were positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine, resulting in further detention under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug consumption,” he said in a statement.
He added that the older suspect, a contract worker, has no prior criminal record, while the younger suspect, who works as a mechanic, has a previous record under Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act.
Both men admitted to consuming methamphetamine on the day of their arrest.
No other items were seized during the operation, and there were no property forfeiture cases involved.
Both suspects were remanded yesterday (Feb 3) to assist in investigations.
