KUCHING: Two men believed to be involved in a cable theft at a residential area in Santubong were arrested at 3.55pm last Wednesday (July 5).

Kuching district police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah said in a statement yesterday (July 7) that the suspects were found to be in possession of various electric cables inside a gunny sack.

“There were various tools found on the suspects during body checks that were believed to be used for cable thefts.

“Further investigations made by the police also revealed that both suspects have past records of drugs, theft, and house break-ins,” he said.

He added the case will be investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code, which provides for a jail term of up to seven years, a fine, or both upon conviction.

In the meantime, Ahsmon said the police have solved seven cable theft cases in the Gita and Santubong areas.

He advised the public to come forward to help with the investigation by relaying any information to the nearest police station.
