BAU: The Magistrate’s Court Circuit Session here, which sat for two days Dec 22 and 23, heard a total of 36 investigation papers involving offences under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Bau police chief Supt Mohd Haide A Rahman said of the total, 25 individuals, aged between 21 and 49, were charged under Section 15(1)(a) of the Act.
“The court imposed fines ranging from RM2,000 to RM3,500. Failure to pay the fines would result in imprisonment of between 10 and 13 months, in addition to a three-year supervision order.
“In addition, the court also found some offenders facing two to three charges under the same section,” he said.
Meanwhile, six other individuals, aged between 22 and 40, pleaded guilty to charges under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
All six were fined between RM2,800 and RM4,400 and could face imprisonment of between seven and 11 months, should they fail to pay the fines.
The prosecutions were conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Ahmad Fauzulutfi Suriani before Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan.
Mohd Haide said the Bau Magistrate’s Court Circuit Session is scheduled to be held during the fourth week of every month to hear related cases in the district.
