KUCHING: Sarawak Sports Corporation, in partnership with Rimbun Sports Technology, hosted a two-day seminar to boost expertise in sustainable sports field management, drawing 50 participants from across the state.

The seminar, titled ‘Innovative & Sustainable Sports Field Management Sarawak’, was held on Nov 25 and 26 to enhance the technical knowledge and skills of those involved in the construction, maintenance, and management of sports facilities throughout Sarawak.

The programme brought together industry experts who shared best practices and key insights on various topics, including football field construction, underground drainage systems, automatic irrigation technology, and guidelines for selecting suitable grass types.

Participants also learned about the use of specialized equipment to improve the longevity and performance of sports fields.

A significant focus of the seminar was on meeting the certification standards set by international sports governing bodies such as FIFA, International Hockey Federation (FIH), and International Cricket Council (ICC), which would enable local sports facilities to host events at the international level.

The event attracted representatives from local authorities, educational institutions including Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) and Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), the Sarawak State Education Department (JPNS), sports associations such as the Sarawak Football Association (FAS) and Kuching City Football Club, as well as private sector partners.

Managing Director of Rimbun Sports Technology Sdn Bhd, Nor Hatika Duriy Mustapha, expressed satisfaction with the seminar’s success, highlighting the opportunity for participants to observe live demonstrations of the latest sports field maintenance machinery.

“The seminar has not only equipped participants with practical skills but also raised awareness on the importance of maintaining high-quality sports facilities,” she told Sarawak Tribune when contacted today.

The event, held at Sarawak Stadium, aims to encourage stakeholders across the state to invest in sustainable and modern sports facilities, which will help develop more world-class athletes from Sarawak.
