BETONG: Two people were killed while nine others were seriously injured in a collision between a van and a Toyota Land Cruiser at a P-turn along Jalan Ulu Skrang today.
The accident, which occurred at 11:59 am in front of Skrang Clinic, involved a van carrying eight male passengers and the four-wheel drive with three occupants.
Two of the van passengers were pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics, while six others sustained serious injuries.
Meanwhile, the Land Cruiser’s occupants – a man, a woman and a child – also suffered severe injuries.
The identities of the deceased and injured have not yet been disclosed by the authorities.
All victims were taken to Betong Hospital by the emergency medical rescue service (EMRS) unit, paramedics, and Civil Defence Force (APM) teams.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Betong station were dispatched to the scene, about 23 kilometres away, following an emergency call.
Upon arrival, the team carried out extrication and rescue work in collaboration with police, paramedics and APM personnel.
Once the situation was deemed safe, the operation ended at 1:25 pm.
