BINTANGOR: An Indonesian man and his pillion rider were killed following a two-vehicle collision along Kilometre 11, Jalan Kelupu here on Saturday night (August 30).

The accident, which occurred at around 7:55 pm, involved a Yamaha Y100 motorcycle ridden by the victims, and a Perodua Ativa driven by a local man.

Police investigations found that the motorcycle had exited from a junction on the right and entered the main road before being struck by the Ativa that was travelling from Bintangor towards Sibu.

Meradong Police Chief, DSP Tansli Mering, stated that the collision occurred in a poorly lit area with no streetlights.

“The impact caused both vehicles to veer into a roadside drain.

“The female pillion rider was pronounced dead at the scene, while the male rider succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at the Bintangor Clinic emergency unit,” he said in a statement.

Meanwhile, the Ativa driver escaped the accident without injuries.

Tansli said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.

Police are working to confirm the victims’ identities and trace their next-of-kin.

Anyone with information about the accident is urged to contact Meradong District Police Headquarters at 084-693222.
