SERIAN: Two middle-aged individuals reported missing in the forest at Kampung Belimbing A here were found safe yesterday (May 9) following a coordinated search and rescue (SAR) operation.
The duo, a 55-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman, had gone to their farm at 9:00 am on that same day but later lost their way.
Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said a distress call was received at 5:19 pm, and a team from Serian Fire and Rescue Station was immediately deployed.
The team arrived at the scene, located about 16 kilometres (km) away from their station, by 6:05 pm.
Luckily, the victims were able to send their location via WhatsApp, allowing rescuers to narrow down the search area.
The SAR operation involved five fire personnel, two police officers, two Malaysia Volunteers Corps Department (RELA) members, and four villagers.
Both victims were found uninjured at 7:02 pm, approximately 4.4 km from the main road.
They were then escorted safely out of the forest before being handed over to the police for further action.
