Two fugitives re-arrested after three weeks on the run

KUCHING: Two male detainees who escaped from legal custody at the Kuching Court Complex three weeks ago have been re-arrested by police yesterday (Mar 23).

Kuching police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah confirmed that the fugitives were caught at 12.30 am and 3.30 pm in Kota Samarahan.

The escapees, identified as 27-year-old Mohd Hissyalezwan Abd Zamri and 25-year-old Muhammad Nasrie Razali, fled the court complex at around 11.30 am on Mar 7. Both are on trial for gang robbery without a firearm under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code.

“The case is being investigated under Section 223/224 of the Penal Code for escaping from lawful custody, which carries imprisonment for a term of up to two years, a fine, or both.

“Both have been remanded for three days until Mar 27, and their initial urine tests returned positive for drugs,” he said in a statement.

Mohd Farhan expressed his gratitude to members of the public for their cooperation in providing crucial information that led to the arrests.
