BINTULU: Two squatter houses were completely destroyed in a fire near San-San Garden here this morning (Sept 16).

No injuries or casualties were reported in the 11.25am incident. The exact number of victims affected by the fire was not known.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Bintulu station were dispatched to the scene, about 6km away, following an emergency call.

Upon arrival, they found the houses beyond saving and performed the extinguishing deed using water from their fire engine.

Their swift action managed to prevent the fire from spreading to a third nearby house, which only sustained minor damage due to heat exposure.

The flames were brought under control at 11.42am and overhaul works were carried out to ensure no potential reignition.

Once the situation was deemed safe, the team ended the operation at 11.58am.

The cause of the fire and losses incurred are still under investigation.
