MATU: Two major infrastructure projects in Matu—the Passin Road Project and the Rural Electrification Scheme (RES)—are expected to be completed by 2026.

Daro assemblyman Safiee Ahmad said the Passin Road Project, initially approved by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg in 2018, is now being re-implemented by a rescue contractor after earlier delays.

He noted that the project has currently reached 30 per cent completion and is expected to be fully completed by December 2026.

“The revival of this project reflects the state government’s strong commitment to improving basic infrastructure in rural areas,” he said during the Ngiling Bidai Gawai Dayak 2025 celebration held at Sungai Passin recently.

“This is crucial in connecting remote communities with other regions and in opening up more economic and social opportunities for the people,” he added.

Safiee also highlighted another major project underway—the Rural Electrification Scheme (RES)—which has achieved 76 percent progress and is slated for full completion by June 2026.

“I urge for the RES project to be expedited so that residents can benefit from it before next year’s Gawai Dayak celebration, giving the festival even greater meaning for the community,” he said.
