Two injured as pick-up rear ends tanker

SERIAN: A driver and his passenger were injured when their pick-up truck slammed into the rear of a palm oil tanker near Engkabang A, Jalan Serian-Sri Aman this morning.

The victims, a 40-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman, were pinned to their seats following the impact but were extricated by alert passers-by before emergency responders arrived.

Both victims were later handed over to paramedics for initial treatment at the scene and taken to Serian Hospital for further medical attention.

The extent of their injuries was not immediately known.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) dispatched firefighters from Serian station to the scene, about 27km away, following a distress call at 6.50 am.

Upon arrival, the team cleared debris and conducted flushing works to ensure the road was safe for other motorists.

The operation ended at 7.34 am.
