BINTULU: A woman in her late 50s and a teenage boy sustained burn injuries in a fire that gutted a workers’ quarters at Jalan Kidurong, Tanjung Kidurong, early morning today.
The victims, aged 59 and 17, suffered burns to their bodies and hands during the incident. They were promptly transported to the hospital by a Ministry of Health (KKM) ambulance for further medical treatment.
According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department’s operations centre, all occupants had managed to flee the burning building before firefighters arrived at the scene.
The emergency call was received at 4.42 am.
However, firefighting efforts were hampered due to the absence of a nearby fire hydrant, forcing responders to seek alternative water sources.
The quarters, which housed several workers, were completely destroyed in the blaze.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire.
