MIRI: Two people were injured in a road accident involving a Lexus SUV and a Proton Saga along Jalan Bukit Bom, near Batu Niah, on Saturday morning.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said it received an emergency call at about 8.15 am and dispatched a team from the Batu Niah station to the scene.
“Upon arrival, firefighters found that the collision involved a Lexus SUV and a Proton Saga, with one passenger trapped inside the Proton Saga,” said a Bomba spokesperson.
The Lexus driver, identified as Teo Sze Shing, 27, escaped unhurt, while the Proton Saga driver, Mohd Zairyee Abdullah, 54, and a front-seat passenger, Misah Bakar, 51, sustained injuries.
Bomba said the Proton Saga driver was assisted out of the vehicle by members of the public, while the passenger was trapped between the seat and the dashboard.
Firefighters carried out rescue operations by removing the front seat to create working space before successfully extricating the passenger using a stretcher.
Both injured victims were later handed over to the Health Ministry for further treatment at Batu Niah Health Clinic.
The operation was brought under control at 8.25 am and concluded at 8.47 am, with police and medical personnel also involved at the scene.
