MIRI: Two individuals were injured in a collision involving a pickup truck, a lorry and a trailer at Ladang Tawakal along the Miri-Bintulu coastal road on Wednesday night (Oct 5).
The Batu Niah Fire and Rescue Station received the emergency call at 9.54 pm and deployed a seven-member response team.
They arrived at the scene at 10.20 pm to find the pickup driver trapped in the wreckage.
The driver, a male, aged 55, sustained injuries to his right leg and chest. Rescue personnel used specialised road accident extraction tools to free him.
His passenger, a female, aged, 67, suffered head injuries and fractures to her left arm and right shoulder. She was not trapped.
Both victims were stabilised at the scene before being transported to Klinik Kesihatan Suai for further treatment.
The operation was led by PBK I Jeffery Majin. Police from Batu Niah, Miri Traffic Unit and health personnel assisted at the scene.
The rescue operation ended at 11.17 pm.
Authorities are determining the circumstances that led to the crash.
