KUCHING: Two men were killed and three others injured in a fatal four-vehicle crash along Jalan Tun Jugah near Gala City early this morning.
Acting Kuching police chief Supt Merbin Lisa said the accident happened at around 12.40 am involving a chain collision sparked by the first vehicle that lost control.
“Initial investigations revealed that a 37-year-old man was driving towards Jalan Airport when his vehicle skidded out of control and veered into the opposite lane, crashing into an oncoming car driven by a 40-year-old man with a 14-year-old girl as his passenger.
“Moments later, a third vehicle coming from the Kenyalang flyover, driven by a 25-year-old man, rammed into the wrecked first car and struck both the second driver and his passenger as they were attempting to help the first driver.
“The third car then veered left and crashed into a fourth vehicle, driven by a 36-year-old man, who had stopped by the roadside to assist the victims,” he said in a statement.
Paramedics pronounced the drivers of the first and second vehicles dead at the scene.
The teenage girl sustained serious injuries and is receiving treatment at the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) emergency unit. The drivers of the third and fourth vehicles suffered only minor injuries.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
Anyone with information on the incident are urged to contact Insp Muhammad Amirul Azami Ahmad Rasol at 016-8593994, 082-259900, or the nearest police station.
