BINTULU: Two women were killed while two others sustained serious injuries in a two-vehicle collision in front of the Paragon traffic light junction here late last night.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said they received an emergency call at 11.54 pm and dispatched firefighters from Bintulu station, about two kilometres from the scene.

“Upon arrival, it was confirmed that a collision had occurred involving a Toyota Hilux and a Proton Saga.

“There were four victims in the Proton Saga and one in the Toyota Hilux,” it said in a statement today.

Two women in the Saga car were found trapped in the wreckage, while a man and another woman, including an Indonesian national, were rescued by members of the public.

“The two victims rescued were rushed to the hospital for treatment, while the trapped victims were extricated by firefighters but were pronounced dead at the scene,” the statement added.

The deceased, aged 34 and 44, were handed over to the police for further action.

Meanwhile, the driver of the Toyota Hilux, a Chinese national, escaped unharmed.

The operation ended at 1.10 am.
