KUCHING: A local man and woman were arrested for alleged drug trafficking and possession, following a police raid on a house in Tabuan Jaya on Tuesday.
Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the raid, conducted at 12:40 pm by the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (NCID), led to the seizure of various drugs worth RM621.
Among the drugs confiscated were 258.74 grammes (g) of suspected Ecstasy powder, 1.48 g of suspected syabu, and 0.95 g of suspected ketamine.
“Both suspects – a 31-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman – tested positive for amphetamine, methamphetamine, ketamine and benzodiazepine.
“Investigations revealed that the male suspect has four prior drug-related offences, while the female suspect has no criminal record,” he said.
They have been remanded for five days until July 21 to assist with further investigation.
The case is being investigated under Section 39B and Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for trafficking and possession of dangerous drugs.
Section 39B provides for the mandatory death penalty or life imprisonment, along with at least 12 strokes of the cane if not sentenced to death.
Section 12(2) carries up to five years’ imprisonment and up to nine strokes of the cane, upon conviction.
Alexson urged members of the public to continue reporting on any information related to drug trafficking or abuse to the nearest police station to help combat the scourge together.
