SARIKEI: Narcotics police arrested two locals for alleged involvement in drug trafficking activity after seizing RM9,042 worth of suspected methamphetamine on Tuesday (April 29).
The suspects, comprising a man and a woman, were detained for inspections during a raid on a house at around 9:30 pm.
Sarikei Police Chief, DSP Aswandy Anis, confirmed that several plastic packets, believed to contain methamphetamine, were found on the living room table.
“The drugs weighing 82.20 grammes have an estimated street value of RM9,042. Both the drugs and a Toyota Hilux were seized for further investigation.
“The suspects are believed to have been involved in drug trafficking activities in Sarikei, Meradong, Tanjung Manis and Belawai areas since early last year,” he said.
Aswandy stated that both of them are being remanded for seven days at the Sarikei police lock-up.
The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the death penalty or life imprisonment and caning up to 12 strokes.
