KOTA SAMARAHAN: Police arrested two local men early this morning for their alleged involvement in cable theft.
Kota Samarahan police chief Supt Damataries Lautin said the were arrested around 4.30 am when a mobile patrol vehicle (MPV) spotted a Perodua Kancil parked in front of a furniture store along Samarahan-Kuching Expressway.
“As the team approached, the suspects attempted to flee by reversing their vehicle but, were ordered to stop for inspections.
“Further checks led to the finding of tools commonly used for cable theft and a roll of cable in the back seat,” he said in a statement.
Police seized two cutters, a roll of cable, a pair of pliers, an axe and the vehicle for further investigations.
Damataries said the suspects, aged 28 and 35, along with the seizures were taken to Kota Samarahan police station for further action.
Background checks showed that the 28-year-old is a wanted individual while the 35-year-old has no outstanding records.
The duo is being remanded to facilitate investigations under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft.
