Two men arrested with suspected methamphetamine in Stampin

KUCHING: Two men were arrested after they were found in possession of suspected methamphetamine worth RM774 at Persimpangan Lorong Stampin here on Nov 15.

Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the suspects, aged 23 and 31, were detained by a team from the Sungai Maong Police Station at 4.50 pm.

He said a search on both men led to the discovery of two packets of crystalline substances believed to be methamphetamine weighing 5.57g and 1.47g.

“Initial urine screening also found both suspects positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.

“Checks showed they have no prior criminal records,” he said in a statement.

Alexson said the case was being investigated under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carried two to five years’ imprisonment and between three and nine strokes of the cane upon conviction.

He said both men had been remanded for three days, from Nov 17 to 19, to facilitate further investigations under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

Alexson added that the arrest was the result of continuous intelligence and public cooperation.
