TANJUNG MANIS: Two local men who were reported missing after entering a forest to collect firewood in Kampung Lot Baru, Belawai yesterday (Aug 6), have been found safe early this morning.

It was reported that both men had left home around noon to gather firewood in a nearby forest but failed to return by late evening, prompting family members to lodge a police report.

Firefighters from Tanjung Manis station were dispatched to the scene following a distress call at 8.30 pm and launched a search and rescue (SAR) operation together with the police and local residents.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said both men were found by villagers at around 2.30 am shortly after the search was briefly postponed late at night.

They were in safe condition and were immediately brought back to their respective homes.

The operation ended at 2.35 am.
