MIRI: Two men were killed when a trailer transporting heavy machinery crashed at the Jalan Miri Bypass traffic lights late Wednesday afternoon.

The impact left the cabin mangled, trapping both the driver and his assistant.

Fire and Rescue personnel from the Lopeng station arrived minutes after the 4.20 pm alert and immediately began forced-entry work to reach the victims.

Medical responders confirmed both men had died at the scene.

Firefighters reported that the machinery on the trailer remained intact on its bed, adding significant risk to the recovery effort.

The team is now awaiting a crane to lift the equipment before the bodies can be safely removed.

Nine firefighters, supported by an FRT unit and an EMRS vehicle, were deployed. Several other agencies were present to assist.
