KUCHING: Police have arrested two men, a local and a foreign national, suspected of breaking into a shop at Bintawa here on Saturday.
Both suspects, who are in their 30s, were picked up by the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) at a residential area in Batu Kawa, Padawan, at around 5:00 pm.
Kuching Police Chief, ACP Alexson Naga Chabu, said with their arrests, police have solved the shop break-in case reported in Bintawa earlier the same day at around 1:18 pm.
“Preliminary urine tests on both suspects returned positive for drugs. The suspects will be remanded for seven days and be held at the Kuching police lockup for further investigation,” he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code, which provides for a maximum jail term of 14 years and a fine, upon conviction.
Alexson also urged anyone with information related to crime in the area to come forward and contact the nearest police station or Kuching District Police Headquarters’ operations room at 082-244444.
