Two men survive 15-metre plunge in Batu Niah incident

MIRI: Two men escaped with minor injuries after their car skidded off the road and plunged 15 metres into a ravine along Jalan Manong towards Simpang Ngu in Batu Niah this afternoon.

The incident, which occurred around 2:26 pm, involved a Proton Saga carrying the two men – identified as Teo Kanyan, 42, and Anyi Kasam, 53.

According to the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Batu Niah, rescue personnel arrived at the scene six minutes after receiving the distress call.

Upon arrival, one victim was found trapped inside the vehicle while the other had managed to free himself.

A six-member team led by PBK I Jeffry Majin used specialised road traffic accident (RTA) equipment to extricate the trapped victim.

Both men were later taken to Klinik Batu Niah by family members for further treatment.

The rescue operation was declared under control at 2:40 pm and concluded at 3:00 pm.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash, and the cause of the incident is under investigation.

Bomba Batu Niah’s swift response – arriving within six minutes of the call – was credited for ensuring the victims’ quick rescue.
