MERADONG: Two rural roads in Sungai Tulai here will undergo upgrades under the 2024 and 2025 People-Friendly Programme (Projek Mesra Rakyat or PMR), aimed at improving accessibility and daily convenience for residents.
Deputy Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii said infrastructure development was a long-term investment and pledged to continue seeking allocations so rural communities progressed alongside urban areas.
“Good roads not only make daily travel easier, but also improve safety and open up more economic opportunities.
“I will continue to seek allocations and implement such projects in rural areas so our communities can enjoy development on par with urban centres,” he said.
Huang, who is the Sarikei MP and Repok assemblyman, was represented by Wong Soon Mee and the Sarikei service team during a recent visit.
They accompanied Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) officers to inspect both sites and gather residents’ feedback.
The works will involve culvert repairs and concrete paving at Jalan Wong Sing Ngie, part of Jalan Hap Hing, under PMR 2024, while PMR 2025 will cover concrete resurfacing at Jalan Siung Hwrong, part of Jalan Tong Ah.
They also inspected the current condition of both roads, gathered feedback from locals, and assessed the scope of work to ensure the projects met community needs.
Residents welcomed the initiative, expressing confidence that the improvements would boost road safety and quality of life.
