Two nabbed for stealing car rims and tyres

KUCHING: The theft of car rims and tyres from a Perodua Ativa ended with two local men in custody following swift police action on Monday (Jan 12).

The case came to light after a 40-year-old local woman lodged a police report over the loss of her car’s rims together with tyres, which had been parked in Taman BDC Stampin.

Acting on intelligence, the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) arrested two local men, aged 29 and 59, at around 4.40 pm in Jalan Tun Jugah area.

Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the team also recovered three rims and several tools believed to be used in the incident.

“Urine tests conducted on both suspects showed one tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine, while the other tested negative.

“The case is being investigated under Section 379A(1) of the Penal Code, which provides for imprisonment of up to seven years, and a fine, upon conviction,” he said.

In view of this, Alexson urged the public to enhance the security of their vehicles at all times and to immediately report any suspicious activity.
