KUCHING: Two men has been rescued while five others are still stranded by rising tides at Pantai Trombol here today after seawater flooded the access route they had used to enter the area.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the incident was reported at 4:23 pm, and a team from the Petra Jaya fire station was dispatched to the scene, arriving at 5:10 pm.

“The victims, who had gone to the beach on four motorcycles for a leisure swim, realised they were stranded only after seawater had risen and submerged the access path,” the department said in a statement.

According to Bomba, the operations commander contacted the victims by phone and instructed them to move to higher ground while rescuers looked for a safe route to reach them.

Two of the seven victims managed to make their way out and get rescued, while five others remained trapped as firefighters continue efforts to locate an accessible path.

The operation was reported to be going well as at 6:14 pm.
