SERIAN: A late-night drive ended in a terrifying plunge for two local men after their vehicle swerved out of control and crashed into a ravine along Jalan Serian–Simunjan last Sunday night (Jan 11).

The accident happened at around 9.30 pm near Kampung Ensebang Padang Billion as the victims were travelling in a Toyota Hilux Rogue towards Serian from Sri Aman.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Serian station were dispatched to the scene, about 38km away, following a distress call.

Both occupants were discovered still inside the badly damaged vehicle at the bottom of the ravine, about 30 metres deep.

One of the victims, aged 23, suffered a fracture to his left leg while the other, aged 30, sustained minor injuries.

The team later administered initial treatment before carefully moving both victims onto stretchers. The injured victims were later handed over to paramedics and taken to hospital for further treatment.

Once the situation was deemed safe, the team ended the operation at 10.42 pm.
