MIRI: Two women escaped unhurt after their wooden house collapsed at Kampung Masjid Kuala Baram on Tuesday night.
The 69-year-old house owner and her daughter-in-law, who is in her 30s, were inside the house when it gave way.
Fortunately, no injuries or loss of life were reported.
Miri police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah confirmed the incident, saying the Lutong police station received a report at 9.22 pm from the house owner.
The house, he said, collapsed due to the rotting and decaying wooden pillars.
“The area where the house was located is also a low-lying saltwater swamp and is frequently affected by high tides,” he said in a statement on Wednesday.
He added that several government agencies, including the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), Civil Defence Force (APM), Social Welfare Department (JKM), Ministry of Health (MOH), Baitulmal Miri and others, have stepped in to provide assistance to the affected family.
The estimated losses incurred by the house owner were approximately RM30,000.
