BUKIT MERTAJAM: A two-year-old girl who is suffering from biliary atresia, a chronic liver disease since she was two weeks old, is in urgent need to undergo a liver transplant.

Her mother Nur Shahida Chit Wan, 38 and father, Mohd Azrul Ahmad, 40, are desperately trying to collect RM160,000 for their youngest daughter, Nur Hayfa, to undergo a liver transplant in Shanghai, China on Feb 27.

Nur Shahida, a mother of three said Nur Hayfa was getting weaker after her liver failed.

“My husband and I are willing to donate part of our liver for her if they are compatible. If not my eldest daughter, Nor Hanis, 10, is also prepared to help her sister,” she told reporters here yesterday.

She said they have collected RM11,500 so far and hoped more would come forward to help.

At the same time, Pertubuhan Kebajikan Nadi Permata Malaysia is also trying to raise funds and had taken them to hospitals for her daughter’s treatment, she added.

In fact, the non-governmental organisation is also helping to make arrangements to bring them to Shanghai for the operation.

Members of the public who wish to contribute, can channel their donations to the Maybak account of  Pertubuhan Kebajikan Nadi Permata Malaysia (551575307417). -Bernama
