KUCHING: A 19-year-old youth was ordered by the Magistrate’s Court here to be bound over for good behaviour for two years for obstructing police officers on duty.

He was found guilty of ramming his Perodua Viva into a police four-wheel drive before fleeing along Jalan Kuching-Serian on October 28.

Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan handed down the order after reviewing the social report submitted by the Social Welfare Department (SWD).

The young man pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing three police officers from carrying out their duties.

Based on the facts of the case, a police corporal and two colleagues were about to inspect a suspicious vehicle parked by the roadside when the driver suddenly reversed and hit the rear left door of their Toyota Hilux.

A chase ensued up to the junction of Kampung Melayu, Kota Samarahan, before the suspect’s vehicle disappeared from view.

He was later arrested by a police team from Batu Kawa at 7:00 pm the following day, and his car was seized as evidence.

Investigations revealed that the accused had obstructed the officers from conducting a check by fleeing and crashing into their vehicle.

Inspector Nur Shafiqa Nyaie Ilin prosecuted the case, while the accused was represented by lawyer, Louis Jaraw.
