KUCHING: Sarawak’s young dancers made the state proud in Taiwan after clinching Gold and Silver at the Pacific Open DanceSport Championship 2025, held in Hualien on Sept 20-21.

Representing Tyng Dance Academy (TDA), Jovanna Goh Yi Xian emerged champion in the Chinese Taipei DanceSport Federation (CTDSF) Juvenile Grade C (Age 11 & below) category, while Ariella Tang Chen Xin placed second, securing a double podium finish for Sarawak and Malaysia.

Jovanna also placed fourth in the CTDSF Juvenile I Solo Grade A and ninth in the WDSF Open Female Solo Juvenile, while Ariella finished tenth in the CTDSF Juvenile I Solo Grade A.

TDA founder Chan Tyng Tyng praised the students for their resilience in the face of Typhoon Ragasa, which disrupted the competition schedule.

“Our students showed not only skill but also courage and maturity.

“They carry Sarawak’s name with pride, both in victory and in responsibility,” she said.

This achievement adds to TDA’s international track record, following its 23-medal haul at the Asia Open Dance Championship in Kuala Lumpur earlier this month.

Chan said the academy’s mission is to raise Sarawak’s profile through dance while building a sustainable system of talent development.

Looking ahead, TDA will host several major events in Kuching, including the ASEAN DanceSport Camp (Oct 1-2), the Borneo Open International DanceSport Championship (Oct 3-5), the ASEAN Elite Masterclass (Oct 6-7), and the Dance for Love charity concert (Oct 7).

“This October will be Sarawak’s proudest moment yet — when our homegrown champions meet the world right here in Kuching,” Chan added.
