KUCHING: Head of State, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, and Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg joined around 3,000 congregants in the Aidiladha thanksgiving event and celebration at the Masjid Jamek, Petra Jaya here today.
The event, organised by the Sarawak Islamic Council, commenced with the sacrificial slaughter of livestock, and accompanied by the recitation of ‘takbir’.
Later, Wan Junaidi and Abang Johari, together with Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, took part in the symbolic act of cutting the sacrificial meat, signifying the spirit of thanksgiving.
The event continued with the distribution of sacrificial meat to 100 recipients comprising new Muslim converts and the needy from around Kuching.
Earlier, the dignitaries and congregants performed the Aidiladha Sunnah Prayer led by the state’s Grand Imam, Datuk Mustapha Kamal Ahmad Fauzi.
The prayer was followed by a special sermon entitled ‘Meraih Keimanan, Meningkatkan Pengorbanan’ (Attaining Faith, Increasing Sacrifice).
