KUCHING: The 5th Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem was posthumously awarded the Pingat Satria Bintang Sarawak (SBS) which carries the title Pehin Sri at the Sarawak State Award Ceremony held at the Astana yesterday morning.

The award was presented by the Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud to the widow of the late Adenan, Datin Patinggi Datuk Amar Jamilah Anu. The Pingat Satria Bintang Sarawak is the highest award conferred by the State Government to the late Adenan in appreciation of his service and dedication to the people of Sarawak.

In a short speech, former Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu Numpang said that Adenan had made significant contribution to the state, especially in his pursuit for more autonomy with the Federal Government.

In addition, Adenan has also shown he was a chief minister for all races without sidelining any particular race or groups while helming the administration. This translated to a resounding win in the 11th State Election in 2016 which saw Barisan Nasional winning 72 out of the 82 State Legislative Assembly seats under his leadership.

His untimely demise in January left a void and a sense of loss shared by Sarawakians from all walks of life. The Head of State also conferred the Pingat Panglima Negara Bintang Sarawak (P.N.B.S) to State Legal Advisor, Datuk Fong Joo Chung which carries the title Dato Sri. Seven recipients were conferred the Pingat Johan Bintang Kenyalang (J.B.K) including Puan Sri Datin Sri Julia Mawan, wife of Saratok MP Tan Sri Dato Sri William Mawan Ikom and Lambir State Assemblyman Ripin Lamat. Pingat Johan Perkhidmatan Cemerlang (J.P.C) was awarded to one recipient, the General Manager of Bintulu Development Authority, Rodziah Morshidi. P i n g a t P e r k h i dma t a n Cemerlang (P.P.C) was also awarded to ten recipients while the Pingat Pegawai Bintang Sarawak (P.B.S) was awarded to nine recipients.

Pingat Bintang Kenyalang (P.B.K) was awarded to seven recipients while 13 recipients were confer red the Pingat Perkhidmatan Bakti (P.P.B). Pingat Ahli Bintang Sarawak (A.B.S) and Pingat Ahli Bintang Kenyalang (A.B.K) saw 15 recipients conferred with the awards respectively.

Also given out were Pingat Perkhidmatan Terpuji (P.P.T) to 16 recipients and the Pingat Bentara Bintang Sarawak (B.B.S) was awarded to 28 recipients bringing the total number of 123 recipients. Also present were wife of the Head of State, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Hajah Ragad Kurdi Taib, State Secretary Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Morshidi Abdul Ghani, wife of Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu, Datin Patinggi Tan Sri Empiang Jabu, State Legislative Assembly Speaker Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar and his wife, Dato Fatimah Mohd Iskandar, invited guests and recipients.
