MIRI: Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi extended moral support and provided food aid to residents affected by the Kampung Lereng Bukit landslide today (Jan 30).

During their visit to the Miri Red Crescent Centre (PBSM) temporary evacuation centre (PPS), they reassured the victims that their welfare is safeguarded while presenting food donations as a gesture of solidarity.

Accompanying them were Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah and his wife Datin Sri Zuraini Abdul Jabbar.

Also present were Deputy State Secretary (Economic Planning & Development) Datuk Seri Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel, Miri Resident Galong Luang, and Miri police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu.

Reports indicate that 105 residents from 25 families have been evacuated due to the risk of further landslides in the area.

Wan Junaidi and his delegation were also briefed by Miri PBSM deputy chairman Dr Subramanian and advisor Tan Lay Yen on the current situation at the PPS, as well as ongoing assistance and protection measures being implemented.

Expressing his concern, Wan Junaidi hoped the evacuees would remain strong in facing this ordeal, assuring them that authorities are working swiftly to provide aid and facilitate the recovery and resettlement process.
