KUCHING: Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi graced the Majlis Kesyukuran held in conjunction with the 70th anniversary celebration of the Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS) at its headquarters here yesterday evening (May 25).

The couple arrived at 6.38 pm and were warmly received by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, along with other distinguished guests.

Abang Johari, who arrived slightly earlier at 6.30 pm, was welcomed by MIS president Datuk Misnu Taha and Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak (TBS) general manager Datuk Abang Mohd Shibli Awang Mohd Nailie.

The event began at 6.45 pm with a reception, followed by congregational Maghrib prayers and the recitation of Yasin and Tahlil led by Sarawak Chief Imam Datuk Mustapha Kamal Ahmad Fauzi.

The evening also featured Quranic recitations by Datuk Ismawi Duet, Awangku Omar Asfuaddin Awang Hamdan, Mohd Faizzil Affandi, and Hadi Mohd Sharkawi.

Adding spiritual depth to the celebration, Sarawak Mufti Datuk Kipli Yassin delivered a sermon titled Ummah Maju Makmur (A Progressive and Prosperous Ummah).

A key highlight of the evening was the symbolic soft launch of the Sarawak Islamic Council’s 70th anniversary logo, officiated by Wan Junaidi. In conjunction with the launch, he also presented the prize to the winner of the 70th anniversary logo design contest.

Mohd Faridzhuan Firdaus Mohd Nayan was announced as the winner and received a RM3,000 cash prize.

The programme ended with congregational Isyak prayers followed by a dinner reception.

Among those present were Minister of Women, Children and Community Development Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah; State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki; Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Coordinator for Regional Development Agencies, DBKU and Islamic Affairs) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi; Deputy Minister of Energy and Environmental Sustainability Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni; Sarawak Attorney General Datuk Seri Saferi Ali; JAIS director Mual Suaud; and DBKU Mayor Datuk Hilmy Othman.
