KOTA SAMARAHAN: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) hosted its annual Iftar Perdana 2025 in the spirit of Ramadan at the Tun Abang Salahuddin Islamic Centre (PITAS) last night (Mar 25).
The event was graced by the presence of the Head of State and Chancellor of Unimas Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, accompanied by his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi.
In his address, Unimas Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Ahmad Hata Rasit said the gathering served as a meaningful platform to bring together the university community and local residents during the blessed month of Ramadan.

He added that acts of worship should not be confined to Ramadan alone, as every responsibility carried out within the university holds spiritual value.
“The task of disseminating knowledge is an act of worship. Managing our students is an act of worship.
“Our biggest responsibility at Unimas is not only to educate, but to nurture young generations of high moral character — the future trustees of this world as Khalifah of Allah,” he said.
As part of the evening’s programme, a symbolic handover ceremony of the ‘Sumbangan Khas Ihya’ Ramadan UNIMAS 2025’ took place.
Wan Junaidi presented RM2,000 in contributions to representatives of 10 selected mosques, suraus and ‘maahad tahfiz’ from across Kota Samarahan, Kuching and Serian, in support of their religious activities throughout Ramadan.
The evening progressed with a Quran recitation and a ‘qasidah’ performance, followed by the breaking of fast.
Guests then performed the congregational Maghrib and Isya’ prayers, as well as the Tarawih and Witr prayers.
Held annually, the Iftar Perdana event is a cherished tradition at Unimas, aimed at strengthening bonds between students, staff, alumni and the local community during the holy month.
