LUMUT: The first day of the official visit by Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi to the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) base in Lumut on Monday (Feb 9) was marked by a meet-and-greet with Sarawakian RMN personnel at Dewan M. Sidek Shabudin.
The event served as a platform for interaction between Wan Junaidi and Fauziah, and RMN personnel from Sarawak who are currently serving and residing at the base, in a warm and cordial atmosphere.
At the same event, Wan Junaidi and Fauziah presented gifts to 10 outstanding students, in addition to providing contributions to 10 individuals suffering from chronic illnesses among the Sarawakian RMN community.
Also present were Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, who was also the accompanying minister, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah and Chief of Navy Admiral Tan Sri (Dr) Zulhelmy Ithnain Nor among others.
The programme was further enlivened by cultural performances and singing by RMN personnel, followed by a luncheon hosted for invited guests.
Following the event, Wan Junaidi and Fauziah continued their visit to Building 102 at the Lumut Naval Shipyard (LUNAS).
During the visit, LUNAS executive officer Azhar Jumaat briefed them on the construction process and current progress of the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) project, including updates on the RMN’s Littoral Combat Ship 3 (LCS 3).
They later visited the exhibition gallery to view a large-scale replica of the Littoral Combat Ship built using Lego blocks, before ending the first day of the official visit.
Today (Feb 10), the naming and launching ceremony of the RMN Littoral Combat Ship 3 (LCS 3) is scheduled to take place at the LUNAS shipyard, to be officiated by Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi as the ‘Lady Sponsor’, and witnessed by Wan Junaidi.
Earlier, the official visit began with a Main Guard of Honour ceremony at the Western Fleet headquarters as a mark of the highest respect to the Head of State, before proceeding to the Istana Hinggap Sultan Selangor (Jugra) to sign the official visitors’ book and attend an RMN operational briefing.
The programme continued with visits to several key facilities around the Lumut RMN Base, including the operational area at the Advanced Mission Support Ship (AMSS) Operations Jetty and KD Indera Sakti.
