KUCHING: Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi paid heartfelt tribute to educators across Malaysia, especially those serving in Sarawak, for their unwavering dedication and sacrifice.
In a Teachers’ Day message, in conjunction with the 54th National Teachers’ Day celebration, they extended their warmest greetings and appreciation to all teachers, describing them as the cornerstone of the national education system and vital drivers of the country’s progress and prosperity.
“Without them, our children would not gain knowledge, develop foresight, or be prepared to face the challenges of today and the future,” said Wan Junaidi.
Reflecting on this year’s theme, Teachers Driving Education Reform, he said it aptly reflects the critical role of teacher professionalism, the holistic development of human capital, and the need for a united educational ecosystem to support ongoing national reforms.
“Teachers are more than just knowledge providers. They are builders of minds and key agents of educational transformation, especially in today’s high-tech, digital era,” he added.
Wan Junaidi also acknowledged the perseverance of teachers serving in remote and underdeveloped areas, many of whom face daily challenges such as inadequate infrastructure, poor access to clean water and electricity, and long separations from their families.
“Despite these obstacles, our educators remain undeterred. Their commitment and dedication ensure that children, no matter where they live, receive the best possible education,” he said.
He expressed confidence in the Ministry of Education’s efforts to improve the welfare of teachers, particularly those in rural and interior regions, by enhancing facilities and support systems.
Calling for meaningful celebration of Teachers’ Day, Wan Junaidi encouraged schools to honour their teachers with heartfelt gestures, from student-led poetry readings to social media tributes, stressing that sincere appreciation matters most.
“As the saying goes, ‘A teacher’s service is like the sun, shining tirelessly, regardless of time or fatigue.’ This truly captures the essence of what our teachers mean to us,” he said.
He called on all Malaysians, regardless of background, to offer prayers and well wishes for the continued well-being of teachers in Sarawak and across the nation.
“Once again, my wife and I extend our deepest appreciation and wish all teachers a very Happy Teachers’ Day 2025. Thank you, teacher,” he said.
