KUCHING: The Sarawak state-level Chinese New Year Celebration 2026 will be held on Feb 17 at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), from 10am to 2pm.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian said the annual celebration serves as an important platform to foster unity, mutual respect and understanding among Sarawak’s diverse communities.

“This celebration reflects the spirit of inclusivity and harmony that has long been the foundation of Sarawak’s strength and stability,” he said during a press conference in conjunction with the state-level Chinese New Year Celebration 2026 at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here today.

Dr Sim, who is also Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government said the celebration will be graced by Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, along with other distinguished guests representing the various communities in the state.

Dr Sim said the presence of Wan Junaidi and community leaders symbolises unity in leadership and a collective commitment to preserving peace and harmony in Sarawak’s multi-ethnic and multi-religious society.

He added that the public is warmly invited to attend the open celebration, which provides an opportunity for people of all backgrounds to interact, strengthen ties and enjoy the festive hospitality prepared for the occasion.

“The open celebration embodies the values of sharing, togetherness and mutual appreciation that define Sarawak’s unique social fabric,” he said.

Dr Sim, who is also the minister-in-charge of the celebration said that the organisation of the state-level celebration underscores the Sarawak government’s continued commitment to strengthen social cohesion, enhancing inter-ethnic harmony and ensuring sustained stability.

“These elements remain critical pillars in driving Sarawak’s development agenda and long-term prosperity.

“The government will continue to uphold and promote such inclusive celebrations as part of our broader efforts to build a progressive, united and resilient Sarawak,” he said.

He said last year’s celebration received overwhelming support, with about 5,000 people turning up to show their support for the Sarawak government’s Chinese New Year open house.
