KUCHING: Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi attended a haj preparation course held at the Astana on Tuesday (May 20), accompanied by family members.

According to a statement posted on the Astana Negeri Sarawak’s official Facebook page, the course commenced at 8.30 am and focused on the theoretical aspects of the haj pilgrimage, including its pillars (rukun), obligations (wajib), and procedural requirements.

“The session aimed to provide participants with a thorough understanding of the pilgrimage rites in preparation for their spiritual journey to the Holy Land,” the statement read.

After a lunch break, the programme resumed with a hands-on session, guiding participants step-by-step through the practical performance of haj rituals. The full-day event was held at the same venue and proceeded smoothly, with active participation and positive feedback from attendees.

Wan Junaidi expressed his appreciation to the organisers and instructors for their diligent efforts. He also conveyed his hope that the guidance provided would enable him and his entourage to fulfil their pilgrimage in accordance with Islamic teachings.

The course was conducted by Ustaz Ramzen Ambi, head of the Halal Management Division of the Sarawak Islamic Affairs Department (JAIS) and a certified National Haj Course Guide (PEKTA), and JAIS Islamic affairs officer Ustazah Rogayah Chek.

They were assisted by facilitators from the Sarawak branch of Tabung Haji Malaysia.

Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, who will be performing the haj as the accompanying minister, and his wife Datin Hajah Zuriani Abdul Jaabar also attended the course.
