KUCHING: Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi paid their last respects to Datin Patinggi Puan Sri Dr Jane Yong Sau Kan at her family residence along Jalan Tabuan here today (Apr 25).
They arrived at about 3.30pm and were received by the late’s children, namely Dr Wong Chee Liang, Dr Wong Chee May and Wong Chee Lin, along with other family members.
Upon arrival, the Governor and his wife spent time offering their final respects and conveying condolences to the bereaved family, expressing words of comfort and moral support during the difficult time.
They also prayed that the family would be granted strength, patience and peace in facing the loss, while expressing hope that the late Yong’s contributions and good deeds would continue to be remembered by loved ones and the wider community.
It was reported that Yong, wife of former deputy chief minister the late Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Wong Soon Kai, passed away at her residence here today at 7.51 am at the age of 100.
She is survived by her three children and grandchildren.
Yong had been a steadfast supporter of her husband’s political journey since his involvement in the Sarawak United Peoples’ Party in 1974.
Both Yong and her late husband graduated as medical doctors from the King Edward VII College of Medicine in 1953.
According to the family, relatives, friends and members of the public may pay their last respects at the residence at No 8, Lorong Tabuan 2, off Jalan Tabuan, today and tomorrow (Apr 25- 26).
Condolence hours are from 2 pm to 5 pm and 7 pm to 9.30 pm today, and 9 am to 12 pm, 2 pm to 5 pm and 7 pm to 9.30 pm tomorrow.
The wake will be held at 7 pm on Monday, followed by the encoffining service at 7.30 am and a memorial service at 8 am on Tuesday. The cortege will then proceed for cremation at Nirvana Memorial Park.
