BETONG: The technical team for a proposed 17-unit rural housing project in Bukit Saban and Lingga has been told to review its specifications and designs to keep construction costs within budget.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the materials proposed for the project should be reassessed without compromising the basic requirements of the homes.
He also called for housing designs involving higher costs to be reviewed, including the possibility of adopting more cost-effective designs suited to the available allocation.
The project involves 11 new rural housing units in Bukit Saban and another six in Lingga.
According to a report by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS), Uggah raised the matter while chairing a project implementation meeting at the Betong Division Resident’s Office here today (Sept 19).
The project, funded under the Betong Division Development Agency (BDDA), was presented during the meeting by the Betong Public Works Department (PWD) divisional engineer.
Uggah, who is the Infrastructure and Port Development Minister, said the review was necessary to determine whether the current designs were contributing to higher costs and to ensure each unit could be delivered within the allocated budget.
The Bukit Saban assemblyman also directed those responsible to resolve any issues concerning the status and sites of the land for each housing unit at an early stage.
This, he said, would help prevent delays once the project moves into implementation.
