KUCHING: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), particularly Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), is confident of winning all Dayak-majority seats in the coming Sarawak election, says Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.
Speaking after officiating at the Mambong Administrative Machinery Workshop at the Biperoh Association Multipurpose Hall in Kampung Gerung near here today, he attributed the coalition’s confidence to its proven development record over the past five years.
“Yes, I am confident. The last five years we have delivered. So many projects are going on, and I think the people also feel the benefit.”
He credited Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s leadership as the biggest factor behind GPS’ growing support.
“He was able to raise funds, and with that funding, development has been going on. What we are doing is not just rhetoric — the vision has become reality.”
Uggah, who is also Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) deputy president, said the Sarawak First agenda has also united people across communities because its policies benefit all Sarawakians.
“Sarawak has come to rally behind the Sarawak First agenda because it benefits everyone.”
On whether all Bidayuh incumbent assemblymen would be retained as candidates, Uggah declined to comment.
“That one you ask the Premier. I can’t answer that question. Otherwise, I become Premier,” he joked.
However, he praised the performance of Bidayuh elected representatives, describing them as hardworking and actively driving development, particularly across the Greater Kuching area.
“They are doing very well. We are very happy. All of them are busy with Greater Kuching projects and many other projects.”
Uggah noted that areas surrounding Kuching enjoy strong economic potential due to their proximity to the city, making it easier for communities to access markets and business opportunities.
Under the current 82-seat Sarawak Legislative Assembly, there are 32 Dayak-majority constituencies, including eight Bidayuh-majority seats, making the Dayak bloc the largest electoral grouping in the state.
Mambong assemblyman Datuk Dr Jerip Susil and Puncak Borneo MP Datuk Willie Mongin were also present at the event.
